[ ZERO WASTE KITCHEN | water recycling installation ]
To design a kitchen zero waste is an exciting work, because it contains so many elements which must be thought through. The “Zero Waste Kitchen” is an installation which shows exemplary how a such kitchen can be designed to build up a sustainable culinary area.
Besides, the creation of a very complete circulation is central to use up, to reduce or to recycle all used materials and products. Zero Waste is the aim, however, no dogma to reduce garbage and above all plastic and to household more ecologically friendly. The protection of the environment is no sole demand of the “Fridays for Future” movement but a personal concern which should be important for everybody.
The construction of a water recycling system is an integral component, around the quantity of water which is used to reduce possibly. I want so far as possible reduse my water consumption or use the used water as efficiently as possibly, because water becomes in times of the climate change more and more a rare good. If the ground-water level sinks, the rain become more and more seldom and the amounts less, the rare water becomes a main problem. “During the both last years it has rained not enough, the ground water levels would not have recovered yet./ In den vergangenen beiden Jahren habe es zu wenig geregnet, die Grundwasserstände hätten sich noch nicht erholt.” (welt)
The recycling of water is associated along with the responsible handling with those materials which are given in the water. This concerns beside the cleaning agents also everything what should be removed by cleaning. Hence, materials harmful to environment are absolutely taboo. Plastic disappears completely from all areas – for the storage, as a utensil and as a building material.
Water recycling and reuse
Possible methods of water recycling: I prefer water recycling methods where no plastic is needed and I don’t create a depence to the industry because I have to buy their products. This applies the old traditional method use plant material to clean the water. Plant material is bio degradable, natural, renewable, freely available and sustainable and made it possible to build a self sufficient system.
Precipitation with plant material
The water becomes by different methods recycles and can be reused after the recycling. I have built a forwarding to the raised beds in which salad, tomatoes and a lot more grows. The vegetables come again on my plate and the left-over biogarbage in my “circular raised beds” – raised beds with a small compost and earthworms in the middle by which the mineral substances flow directly in the raised beds.
Other food I buy as far as possible zero or low waste and pay attention particularly to the avoidance of plastic. On this occasion, I’m of use either reusable packaging or freely of packaging.
Zero Waste Kitchen Stuff
Coffee grounds: Dry coffee grounds are suited very well to bind liquids and above all fat and oils. Simply strew the coffee grounds on the used dishes and give it together with the food leftovers in the compost.
Luffa and wooden brush instead of sponge: Luffa belongs to the pumpkin plants and is a renewable raw material which can be given after the use on the biocompost if it contains no toxic materials.
Nets, glasses and reusable container for loose goods: I use for the purchase, so much as possible, nets and go shopping at the market because there the traders offer loose goods. Whether cheese at the cheese stand, bread at the baker or fruit and vegetables. Beside a nice stroll you can quite simply saves packaging.
